Scholarly writing presents an ongoing challenge for me, often leading to second-guessing and a prolonged writing process. Despite having the necessary facts and research, articulating them coherently becomes a struggle. To address this, my strategy involves initially expressing my thoughts and then refining the wording for clarity. While this method has been somewhat effective, I still encounter difficulties in conveying ideas smoothly.

The recent integration of Grammarly into my writing routine has proven highly beneficial. Over the past two weeks, Grammarly’s assistance has significantly improved the quality of my writing. Another valuable tool in my writing arsenal since 2014 has been PERRLA, providing excellent guidance for APA style and aiding in reference management. It stores a comprehensive list of references used since the inception of my MSN program, streamlining the citation process. Despite its proficiency, I’ve supplemented it with the APA 7th edition manual to ensure precision.

One persistent challenge has been minimizing the overuse of the pronoun “I” in my writing. Although its acceptance has grown, there remains a need to employ it judiciously to enhance the overall quality of the text.

Throughout my academic journey, spanning BSN, MSN, and now DNP, locating peer-reviewed and scholarly sources has posed a consistent challenge. Fortunately, GCU’s well-equipped library and supportive librarians have been invaluable resources. Despite becoming adept at research techniques during my MSN program, there remains a concern about the accessibility and ease of sorting through articles for this program’s requirements.

The reading for this week emphasized the direct link between writing and enhanced learning (Anderson et al., 2017). While conflicting findings exist, I’ve personally experienced the benefits of this approach throughout my life. Recognizing the direct connection from hand to brain, I will continue to leverage writing as a tool to enhance my learning and academic endeavors.
