In my capacity as a DNP nurse, I propose implementing diverse strategies to enhance the mental health of the general population, particularly in the state of Ohio. One key initiative involves the establishment of community-based awareness programs to shed light on the prevalence of mental health issues in Ohio. Despite the prevalence of such conditions, a significant portion of the population remains uninformed, lacking the knowledge to effectively address mental health challenges (Merker, Dolata & Pike, 2017). Introducing community-based awareness programs would significantly enhance understanding and empower Ohio residents to recognize and cope with mental health issues.
Additionally, I advocate for the development and implementation of community-based mental health centers to bolster mental well-being across Ohio. Currently, the state faces a shortage of mental health centers, and many individuals are unaware of their existence. Expanding the number of mental health centers would facilitate early detection and treatment of mental health concerns. Elevating awareness and ensuring quality care through increased mental health centers constitute crucial steps in mitigating the mental health challenges faced by the residents of Ohio.
Moreover, aligning with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements can substantially benefit the people of Ohio concerning mental health services. The ACA mandates that all medical insurers in the state cover mental health and substance abuse disorders, thereby facilitating easy access to mental health centers and fostering early detection and treatment. Additionally, the ACA’s stipulation that small group plans and insurers offer coverage at parity holds promise for improving mental health outcomes for many individuals in Ohio.
